What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a dental treatment option for straightening smiles using a series of clear plastic aligners. Our dentist can customize each aligner to fit your smile and provide optimal results. Since Invisalign uses removable trays instead of metal brackets and wires, it makes daily oral hygiene easier than traditional braces. We offer Invisalign treatments to adults and responsible teens.
Our dentist will walk you through the treatment process to ensure you know what to expect and feel confident in your treatment. For most people, Invisalign treatments typically take between 12-18 months. If you have a more complex or severe orthodontic case, we'll refer you to a trusted orthodontist. Our Invisalign treatments work well if your smile has crooked teeth, crowded teeth, unwanted gaps, or if you've relapsed on your alignment after previous orthodontic treatment.
What Can Invisalign Treat?
Invisalign is an effective solution for mild and moderate misalignment conditions. Should you qualify for Invisalign, we can use these clear aligners to address multiple dental issues, including:
- Crooked Teeth: If misaligned teeth hinder the function of your bite and affect the beauty of your smile, Invisalign can help correct the issue.
- Crowded Teeth: Overlapped, cramped, or twisted teeth can occur when your jaw size cannot accommodate your growing teeth.
- Unwanted Gaps: Invisalign can also help fix separated teeth that cause gaps in your smile, affecting the aesthetics and function of your bite.
What To Expect With Our League City Invisalign Services
At Solaris Dental, we begin the process by thoroughly assessing your oral health to determine if you're a good candidate for Invisalign aligners. Once we've determined whether you're eligible, our dentist will take detailed scans and send the images to a trusted lab for custom fabrication of your new aligners. We'll also discuss what you can expect while wearing your aligners.
We'll contact you when your custom trays are ready for you to pick them up. We recommend wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours each day to achieve maximum results. Every few weeks or so, you'll change to the next set of aligners. Around 4-6 weeks into your Invisalign treatment, we'll check to see how you're progressing and make any adjustments if needed.
Maintaining Your Smile with Vivera® Aligners
Once your treatment is complete, you’ll need an aligner to help you preserve your new bite and avoid relapse. We typically recommend Vivera aligners, which are custom-made to fit your unique smile from the same clear material as your Invisalign aligners. You won't need to wear your Vivera retainers as often as your Invisalign trays, but it's important to follow our dentist's guidelines to prevent your bite from relapsing.
Invisalign FAQs
It’s common for patients to have questions about Invisalign when trying to decide if it’s the right treatment for them. Here are some of the questions patients ask us about Invisalign.
Everyone’s treatment time is different, but on average, it takes between 12-18 months. Our dentist will give you an approximate timeline during your initial consultation, and can even show you what your smile will look like at different treatment stages.
Each aligner tray made to fit precisely to your smile while moving your teeth gradually. They aren’t painful, but can feel a bit snug. Your teeth may feel slightly sore when you first switch to a new tray, but this usually goes away within 2-3 days.
We recommend that you wear your trays for most of the day because the continued pressure is what produces results. If the aligners aren’t worn as often, it could lengthen the treatment time because the teeth won’t shift as effectively. It’s even possible for progress to reverse if you stop wearing the aligners completely.
If you lose your current aligner set, we recommend wearing your previous set until you can visit our office for a replacement. This will preserve your current progress and avoid relapse. Try to keep your aligners in a special case when you remove them for eating or brushing your teeth to avoid the risk of losing them.
